Head Coach

As an athlete I ran cross country for Wimborne AC and represented Dorset up to a national level. 2011 was when my coaching journey started as a LiRF (Leadership in Running Fitness) with England Athletics. Over the next few years with an interest in multiple sports and an interest in how the body moves I built on my knowledge with qualifications in nutrition and becoming a Sports Massage therapist.

I have coached with Runblandford as well as standalone conditioning sessions. The 2021/22 season was my first true experience with netball. Starting out as a spare pair of hands and to see what I thought of it. I’d passed my EN Level 1 coaching course by the end of the season. For the 22/23 & 23/24 seasons I also worked with the Dorset FA ETC (Satellite /County) for girls as a physical performance coach during a continued study in strength & conditioning.

I’ve been fortunate to have supported coaching teams at Dorset Netball PDP (Satellite/County) and plan to continue being involved going forward. The 2023/24 season has seen me complete my EN Level 2 coaching and CiRF (Coach in Running Fitness). Away from the courts I work within the Electrical Wholesale industry specialising in lighting, I’m a regular Parkrunner with the odd Marathon or Ultra thrown in.

I have been playing netball from a very young age. I played to a high level throughout my time at school including county and national level. I played at Canford Netball Club until aged 14 and then went on to play in the Bournemouth and Poole Adult League where I have played ever since! More recently, I have played in Premier Division in the Bournemouth league. However, unfortunately I had to stop due to injury. I have since carried on in my current teams which I absolute love. I have been coaching since 2015 and received my level 1 coaching award in 2020. I have coached teams playing up to regionals. I am also an umpire and have been umpiring league since 2015 and have completed my C award. I have just completed my postgraduate degree in Law at university and I am in the process of starting a job in the legal field. In my free time I’m outside with my horses or on the netball court!

I have completed Level 1 Netball Coaching. I play in Division 1 of the Poole League and Division 2 of the Bournemouth league weekly. My preferred position is GA but I’ve been known to give anything a go if needed! I just love playing and therefore love helping with WNC whilst both my own children are also part of the club.

My job is a Burns Clinical Nurse Specialist for children based at Salisbury Hospital. I’ve been nursing 23 years now, I’ll be useful with injuries on the court.”

I have been a netball parent for the last 4 years and whilst not a netballer myself (yet) I’m always so excited to watch my daughter and her team play.

I became chairperson in December 2022 and whilst this role keeps me busy my ‘real’ job is as a self-employed gardener, decorator and soft furnishings maker. I also play ladies softball cricket for Parley Ladies and dream of having the time and fitness to learn and play netball.”

Having always loved sport, I found myself playing netball for my school team as a youngster then pursuing sport as a career as I entered the teaching profession over 20 years ago. Loving the sense of camaraderie being in a team brought, I continued playing netball into adulthood and still, today, play in the Poole Netball League on Monday nights! My daughter has followed in my footsteps and has been at WNC since she was 9 years old. It’s been wonderful to watch her grow as a player and make new friendships and that’s all thanks to the nurturing, supportive and inclusive ethos the club holds so dear.

Treasurer

I’m Dad of a passionate netball playing daughter. For the last 7 years I’ve used my football experience to coach my son’s football team, gaining FA qualifications along the way. I‘ve volunteered to be Treasurer at WNC so I can get more involved with my daughter Lily’s passion of netball, understand the game better and see if I can give back to what is a brilliant sport. My only personal experience of netball is competing in a mixed netball tournament which I loved and which nearly killed me. Netball is a great sport and one I’d like to see more boys/men play; so maybe in time we can work on widening its appeal.

I should also say I’ve worked at JPMorgan for approaching 25 years and hope to use my mathematical brain and numeracy skills to be an effective Treasurer for WNC. Look forward to seeing you on the side of the courts cheering on WNC!!!

I look after the kit sales and Facebook page- soon to include Instagram. I am usually at training on Fridays and Sundays and always very happy to meet up with my box of kit if you would like a ‘no obligation’ rummage. Contact me through WNC Facebook Messenger. I have leapt from never ever holding a netball to spending most of my time in and around netball with my daughter in a few short years. I have played a game once in my life, just last year, at very much at the wrong side of 50, and probably won’t ever again. Watching is good!

Please say ‘hi’ if you see me. And please send me anything you think would be great on WNC Facebook.
